St. Michael's Church is originally a Romanesque basilica built in the 13th century. It is renewed in the 16th century with the Gothic style, later in the 18th century a Baroque vestibule and a Classicistic facade were added. The narrow Gothic tower of Michaelerskirche has become one of the symbols of the Inner City. The St. Michaeler's square that takes its name from the church also houses the sights the Hofburg 's St. Michaelers Tract, the Loos-House planned by Adolf Loos in 1911, and the open air museum of the Roman ruins of Vindobona.
